Rental Support Services

CAPSH provides Rental Support Services to help low-income residents of suburban Hennepin County obtain and maintain housing. Rapid Exit Services, the Transitional Housing Program and Renters Education are programs that CAPSH operates to assist and support those in need. CAPSH counselors provide flexible assistance to every clients' needs by answering questions and connecting the client to financial and educational resources.

Rapid Exit Services
CAPSH is one of four Rapid Exit providers in Hennepin County. The Rapid Exit Program helps families move from a Hennepin County homeless shelter to safe and affordable housing. CAPSH is the only provider that focuses on locating housing in suburban Hennepin communities.

Eligibility - Referral to the program is through a Hennepin County screener only. We can't accept clients from outside the Hennepin County shelter system.

Program Details - After someone is referred to CAPSH, a Rapid Exit Case Manager meets with him or her at the shelter. They work together to find affordable housing in suburban Hennepin County. The Rapid Exit Case Manager also helps clients meet their basic needs (for example, clothing, education and healthcare). People are also connected with other resources they need to become self-sufficient.

Tennant Training Classes
Tenant training classes teach people what they need to know to be a successful renter. Classes are open to the public. In addition, all Transitional Housing Program and Rapid Exit Program clients must attend them. The classes are held every other month.

The classes cover a variety of topics, including:

  • · Types of rental housing and leases
  • · Determining what you can afford
  • · Leasing with a poor credit or rental history
  • · Landlord responsibilities
  • · Tenant responsibilities
  • · Conflicts between landlords and tenants
Our Vision ~ CAPSH will be the preeminent poverty fighting agency in suburban Hennepin County.
